Micropost durante una serata di febbre visto che sto morendo di caldo e devo uscire dal letto qualche minuto. Alle volte Internet spara cavolate molto più della carta stampata, ma questa si rifà alla grande quando parla di Internet.
Ho notato più di una volta come sui giornali le notizie più deviate dalla realtà sono sempre sul web, sui blog o su facebook in particolare.

Ricordo un articolo de “La Stampa” su Beppe Grillo che veniva contestato pesantemente sulla sua contrarietà a pubblicare le dichiarazioni dei redditi on line. C’erano migliaia di commenti su quel post e circa il 10% erano palesemente di disaccordo da un’occhiata a campione. Sono centinaia i post di Grillo con migliaia di commenti e  la stampa non ha mai fatto articoli su altro, ma basta che venga contestato una mezza volta e via a sparare durissimo. Ora succede di nuovo sulla storia di Massimo Tartaglia. Sempre La Stampa dice “su Facebook nascono gruppi anche pro-aggressore”. Boh al momento il gruppo pro-aggressore più grosso ha 22.000 fan, quello contro 700. Non è neanche facile da trovare con la ricerca. Articolo La Stampa.

There’s blogging nowadays and everyone has to be writing stuff on the web all the time about what they have been doing. Sometimes even to the cost of not actually doing it properly.
Payments from a big site, advertising, visibility or pure ego satisfaction are the reasons behind the proliferation of not-very-good information.

I try not to blog about anything I am not an expert on, but many people seem to be desperate about writing a post and having it linked to newsfeeds aggregators, to the point that they don’t care if they are publishing, well, bullshit.
In the free sofware community, but probably everywhere, this new trend is somewhat harmful, because people browse the web looking to fix problems or to learn about and improve their open source OS and they need to find sound technical information. (more…)

Since Gnome 2.28 they decided that applications’ menus should be text only, without any icons. I actually like icons in Gnome and don’t think that they were abused in menus.

Luckily there is a way to revert to the old behaviour by setting a gconf key. Just run gconf-editor then find the key for /desktop/gnome/interface/menus_have_icons and flag it.

Alternatively just run this command:

conftool –set /desktop/gnome/interface/menus_have_icons –type boolean true

I hope they change their mind on this. Maybe a bug in the gnome bugzilla or an idea in brainstorm should be opened about this.
PS: the only piece that still refuses to show icons is the indicator-applet on the right of the top panel. That’s too bad because the power off icon is kind of important. If you don’t like this too, complain here.

Just a summary of my recent overclocking accomplishment on a Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P motherboard, an AMD Phenom II X3 705E CPU and a Sapphire Ati Radeon HD 4670 video card:

North bridge and RAM also tolerate some overclocking, but actually most of the time this sistem would run at stock speeds undervolted at -0.175 as a “home-server”. More details on that in the future.

Anyway, to all those who think that X3 cpus are defective X4, these results should help their understanding of our economy.

Solo una piccola considerazione su come il significato delle parole sta cambiando nel nostro paese proprio come nella fattoria degli animali di Orwell: Ghedini definisce Berlusconi un “primus super pares” invece che inter pares.

Magari in molti non se ne rendono conto ad un primo esame, ma se uno è sopra, gli altri sono sotto, ovvero sono sotto-posti, ed i sottoposti non sono alla pari con chi sta sopra. Quindi tutta la frase viene stravolta e nè primus nè pares possono stare ai lati del super.
